¿Qué tal? It’s not a phrase that you can literally translate, but it’s important to know it, as you will hear it all of the time.
It is a very common expression and it is used as a greeting but is less formal than ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?) And it means”How is it going?”
However it could have different uses when you want to find out how something is, and sometimes eliminates the need for verb tense and could be a past event, a present event, or a future event it has to be deduced from context.
Que tal tu familia? How is your family?
Que tal la comida? How is the food?
Que tal la fiesta de anoche? (How was the party last night?)
Que tal tu semana? (How is your week going?)
Que tal este vestido? (How about this dress?, what do you think… )
What do you think. ”Que tal si vamos a la playa ?(How about we go to the beach?)
